Durre Waseem
Durre Waseem was born and raised in Pakistan, receiving her MA from Punjab University. She spent several years teaching at the university after graduation, as well as a few years at an all-girls college before making the move to the United States in 2001.
She says, “I grew up in a family that loved to draw and color. I took up formal art classes in college and earned a Master’s Degree from Punjab University where I taught for the next seven years and later three at a girls college. It was during my teaching years that I explored myself as an artist with better understanding of seeing and omitting. For the next 30 years of painting, from the busy urban streets of Lahore with their frenzied crisscross of old dilapitated buildings mixed with thick strands of electric wires to the manicured locations of California, my colors and strokes have evolved and adapted through my exposure to different art and places. I enjoy the process of painting in several mediums - oil, watercolor, pastels. Like the preferred medium my choice of subject matter also has a wide range.”
